In
May 1966, lawyers from two long-established firms in eastern Connecticut
founded the firm known as Brown, Jacobson, Jewett and Laudone.
Initially strong in litigation, the practice expanded quickly to
include commercial law, banking and real estate law, estate planning,
and most recently Indian law.
The
firm chose to locate in the center of eastern Connecticut, downtown
Norwich, in the former Uncas-Merchants National Bank Building.
It later purchased the adjoining property, the Connecticut Bank
and Trust Building. The office continues to occupy these
historic landmarks. From this location the firm serves New London
and Windham counties. In 1990, the name of the firm was changed to Brown,
Jacobson, Tillinghast, Lahan & King, P.C., and in 2000 the name
was shortened to the present Brown Jacobson P.C.
Throughout
the firm's history, its attorneys have assumed leadership roles in state
government.
Firm members have served as Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut,
Majority Leader of the State Senate, State's Attorney for New London
County, president of the Connecticut Bar Association, presidents of
hospitals, banks and community organizations, and members of boards of
municipalities and major financial institutions.
Through
continuous growth and development, Brown Jacobson P.C. has strengthened its resources to meet the needs of
families and businesses of eastern Connecticut and beyond.
